چکیده
• Environmental status, ecosystem services and restoration scenarios assessed. Field surveys, stakeholder workshops, a non-market valuation implemented. Water quality, sustainable fisheries mangrove conservation investigated. Mangrove provides the highest utility followed by water quality. Costs of modest to Ashtamudi lake comparable with benefits. Valuation can play an important role in guiding decision-making concerning natural ecosystems which is particularly tropical coastal wetlands due their widespread deterioration. This study investigates environmental status provision key Ramsar site Kerala, India, explores feasibility wetland through multi-year program involving primary market data collection, stated preference valuation. Relying on input local stakeholders, we apply choice experiment estimate willingness pay for focus fisheries. Results indicate that stakeholders attribute greatest value conservation, quality sustainably managed Furthermore, show residents’ moderate improvement may outweigh potential cost projects, especially objectives even under conservative assumptions regarding benefits costs restoration. We discuss how such results inform policy development management practices act as benchmark extensive network Kerala.

A Total Economic Valuation of Wetland Ecosystem Services: An Evidence from Jagadishpur Ramsar Site, Nepal
Wetlands are the most productive ecosystem and provide wide arrays of wetland ecosystems (goods and services) to the local communities in particular and global communities in general. However, management of the wetland often does not remain priority and recognized as the unproductive waste land mainly due to poor realization of the economic value of the wetlands. Taking this into account, the s...
متن کاملAgricultural conservation practices and wetland ecosystem services in the wetland-rich Piedmont-Coastal Plain region
In the eastern U.S. Coastal Plain and Piedmont region, diverse inland wetlands (riverine, depressional, wet flats) have been impacted by or converted to agriculture. Farm Bill conservation practices that restore or enhance wetlands can return their ecological functions and services to the agricultural landscape. We review the extent of regional knowledge regarding the effectiveness of these con...

Harike wetland was declared a Ramsar site in 1990. It is located at the confluence of two major rivers of Indus rivers system, the Beas and the Sutlej, but was never explored extensively for its existing fish biodiversity. Earlier only 27 fish species of commercial value were reported from the wetland. Acknowledging its importance for rich diversity fish assemblages in seven different reaches o...

متن کاملCharacterization of change in the Harike wetland, a Ramsar site in India, using landsat satellite data
The increasing population in the developing countries has rendered wetlands vulnerable to land use changes. Remote sensing offers a rapid and efficient means of data acquisition of ecosystems in time and space. The present study was undertaken to identify changes in the Harike wetland, a Ramsar site in the state of Punjab, India; and identify causal factors, as well as vulnerable areas threaten...
